Parliament Special Session: Key Cabinet Meeting Concludes, No Briefing Expected

On Day 1 of the Parliament's special session, the union cabinet
's key meeting has come to an end. As per reports, the cabinet is not expected to give a briefing regarding this meeting today. During his speech, PM Modi hinted at certain "historic decisions" for the special session, however, no details or agenda has been shared by the cabinet.
There was speculation that after this key meeting, the cabinet would announce a decision regarding the eight bills, which are rumoured to be introduced in the Parliament. These bills are - One Nation, One Election Bill; OBC Reservation Bill and Women's Reservation Bill amongst others,
Ahead of this meeting, the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah
met with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal
, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and others. As per reports, BJP's National president JP Nadda was also present at this meeting.
During the meeting, the Parliamentary Affairs minister announced that the five-day special session of the Parliament would be discussing eight bills, which would also include the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023; the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023; the Post Office Bill, 2023, the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023.
While the details of this key cabinet meeting have not been shared, they are expected to be announced during Day 2 of the special session of the Parliament. The Parliament is in session for three periods in a year - Budget Session, Monsoon Session and the Winter Session. The Monsoon session of the Parliament ended on August 11, 2023. This special session is expected to conclude on September 22, 2023.
