While the two reportedly got married at an Arya Samaj temple in October 2017, a court marriage was pending as Jitender had not divorced his estranged wife. Police said that the duo often quarrelled over Jitender's married status and his visits to his wife.
Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav told PTI that Jitender moved out of house in December and Pooja Kumari assumed that Jitender left her house because of his son. On the day of the crime, she reportedly met her friend and asked him to take her to Jitender's residence. She entered the house as the door was open and strangled Divyansh, who was sleeping, to death. She then took out clothes from the bed box and dumped the body of the 11-year-old in the box. The police are investigating the matter further.
