Mumbai: The Ganpati immersion processions attract a large number of devotees and onlookers from across the city, resulting in increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Additionally, the presence of heavy vehicles and private buses can further exacerbate the situation. To address these challenges, specific restrictions have been imposed during certain dates and times.
For South Mumbai
, heavy vehicles and private buses will be completely restricted from entering and plying on roads on September 21, 24, 26 and 29, 2023. However, between September 19 and September 29, heavy vehicles will be permitted to ply in South Mumbai from 12:00 midnight to 7:00 AM.
In Greater Mumbai
(excluding South Mumbai), heavy vehicles and private buses are restricted to enter roads between 11:00 AM and 1:00 AM on September 20, 23, and 25, 2023. Moreover, there will be a restriction on heavy vehicles on September 28, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 AM the next day. During the remaining period from September 19 to September 29, 2023, heavy vehicles and private buses entering and leaving Mumbai are prohibited from entering and plying on roads between 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
However, the vehicles providing essential services such as those transporting vegetables, milk, bakery products, drinking water, petroleum products, ambulances, government and semi-government vehicles, and school buses are exempt from these restrictions.
Additionally, all private buses carrying passengers entering and leaving Mumbai, as well as all heavy vehicles (including exempted ones), must be parked only in privately owned or rented spaces or authorized 'Pay and Park' areas. On-street parking of these vehicles on any road is strictly prohibited.
The traffic arrangements have been implemented to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic, ensure the safety of participants, and minimize inconvenience during the Ganeshotsav
