Chandra Shekhar Ghosh: Early Life
Born in 1960 in a poor family in Agartala, Tripura, Ghosh's father ran a small sweet shop. Despite financial hardships, Ghosh was committed to his education. He moved to Bangladesh for further studies and earned a degree in Statistics from Dhaka University in 1978. In 1985, Ghosh's life took a significant turn when he joined BRAC, a Bangladeshi non-profit organization. Here, he saw firsthand how small financial support could make a big difference in the lives of rural women. After returning to Kolkata in 1997, Ghosh started working with the Village Welfare Society and later founded his own company. In 2001, he launched Bandhan, a micro-lending organization aimed at providing loans to women. To start this venture, he borrowed Rs 2 lakh from friends and family. By 2009, Bandhan was registered as a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) and transformed into Bandhan Bank in 2015 when it received a banking license.Trending:
