The Sikkim government has increased the dearness allowance for its employees by 4% ahead of the Durga Puja festival. Effective January 1, 2024, the allowance will rise from 46% to 50%. This increase also applies to contract-based employees and those in work-charged establishments drawing revised pay.

The Sikkim government increased dearness allowance to its employees by four per cent ahead of the Durga puja festival, a circular issued by the Chief Secretary VB Pathak said on Tuesday.
The DA to the state government staff and dearness relief to pensioners shall be enhanced from the existing 46 per cent to 50 per cent with effect from January 1, 2024.
The DA will also be admissible to the employees appointed on contract basis and work-charged establishments drawing revised pay in the regular scales of pay of the state government, the circular said.
In July cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the Sikkim government approved a proposal to increase the dearness allowance for employees and pensioners by 4%, effective retroactively from July 1, 2023. This decision marks the first significant action of the newly formed Sikkim Krantikari Morcha government.
With this increase, the dearness allowance for government employees and pensioners will rise to 46%. Officials confirmed that this adjustment aims to provide better financial support to those working within the government and retired personnel in the state.
