The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is known for its move to align with the latest trends. The organization's motive is to ease the process and provide better service to subscribers. This time, EPFO has announced a significant change to its claim processing rules.

What EPFO Has Decided To Change And Why?

Due to difficulties faced by field offices in updating Aadhaar details after a member's death, EPFO will now allow physical claims to be processed without seeding Aadhaar in such cases.

What EPFO's Circular Said?

This new rule, outlined in a circular dated May 17, 2024, states that physical claims can be processed without Aadhaar, but only with approval from the Officer in Charge (OIC).

How This New Process Take Place?

The OIC must approve the claim through an e-office file, which must thoroughly document the verification steps taken to confirm the deceased member’s identity and the legitimacy of the claimants.

Measures To Stop Fraudulent Withdrawals

Additional measures, as directed by the OIC, will be necessary to prevent fraudulent withdrawals.
When Will You Avail This Facility?
This change applies only when member details are accurate in the Universal Account Number (UAN) but incorrect or incomplete in the Aadhaar database.
What To Do In Case Of Aadhaar Details Are Correct But UAN Details Are Not?
"In cases where Aadhaar details are correct but the UAN details are not, field offices must follow the guidelines in Paragraphs 6.9 and 6.10 of JD SOP version-2 dated March 26, 2024. This includes updating the UAN details, seeding, and authenticating Aadhaar according to the instructions from the Circular dated September 24, 2020," the EPFO circular explained.
Steps To Avail New Process:
After going through the details, the question that may come to your mind is what are the steps to avail the facility. So, here’s how the new process works.
- Physical claims can be temporarily allowed without Aadhaar seeding in death cases.
- Approval is required from the Officer in Charge (OIC) through an e-office file.
- Detailed verification is necessary to confirm the deceased member's identity and the legitimacy of the claimants.
- Due diligence actions, as directed by the OIC, are required to prevent fraudulent withdrawals.
