Ghaziabad: Kanwariya's on Monday allegedly vandalised and overturned a government vehicle in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad. The vehicle with police written on it reportedly entered a lane reserved for kanwariyas and allegedly hit one of the pilgrims. It was then vandalised and overturned by an angry mob.
The incident took place at around 10.30 am near Duhai rapid rail station in the Madhuban Bapu Dham police station area of the city, reported news agency PTI. As per the police, an SUV, attached with hydel vigilance, entered the lane which is reserved for the movement of Kanwariyas.
The video of the incident surfaced online and soon went viral. In the video, it could be seen that the vehicle had a siren and beacon light and 'Police' written on it. However, the police claimed that the vehicle did not belong to the department.

After getting the information, the police reached the spot and tried to control the situation. The driver of the vehicle, Avnish Tyagi, was detained. He said that he was going to the office of Hydel Kavi Nagar from Muradnagar to attend the duty of Hydel vigilance officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajesh Kumar said as reported by PTI.
The Kanwar Yatra commenced on the first day of the holy month of Sawan (Shravan) on Monday and will culminate on August 2, as Ganga water will be offered to Lord Shiva. Kanwariyas are reaching Haridwar to collect waters of the holy Ganga river.
