Gurugram: A mother, Poonam Devi, was arrested for allegedly killing her 8-year-old son, Karthik, in a fit of rage. The incident unfolded in Guwhen Karthik returned home from school with dirtied clothes and missing books, according to police reports on Thursday.
Devi was taken into custody on Tuesday and presented in court on Thursday, where she was sent to judicial custody. Initially, Police suspected that the crime was motivated by Devi's alleged illicit relationship with another man but that wasn’t the case.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Varun Dahiya disclosed that during interrogation, Devi admitted to her actions. She recounted how, upon Karthik's return from school, she was infuriated to find his clothes smeared with wall putty and two of his books missing. Enraged, she made him stand outside their house. When Karthik insisted on going to a nearby shop, Devi allegedly strangled him with her 'chunni'.
The incident came to light when a private hospital reported the death of a child to the police on Monday. Karthik's father, Arvind Kumar, a labourer, noticed neck injuries on his son's body and suspected foul play. He filed a complaint at Sector 18 police station, revealing that a neighbour had informed him of his son's illness. Upon reaching home, he found Karthik unconscious, with his wife weeping beside him. Despite their efforts to rush him to the hospital, Karthik was declared dead upon arrival.
Following an investigation, Devi was identified as the prime suspect and eventually was arrested. She confessed to the crime during police interrogation and was held in police remand for a day.
In other news from Gurugram, a incident unfolded resulting in the death of a 31-year-old IT company manager and critical injuries to his younger brother. The altercation began when a servant of the victim arrived at his residence in a cab and got into an argument with a neighbour, identified as Manoj Bhardwaj.
Upon Rishabh's return home with his family, a physical confrontation ensued, escalating into a violent attack by Manoj and his associates. Tragically, Rishabh was fatally struck by a car allegedly driven by Manoj, while his brother Ranjak sustained critical injuries.
CCTV footage captured the entire sequence of events. An FIR has been lodged against Manoj Bhardwaj and others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and authorities are actively pursuing the case.
