Liquor shops in Delhi will remain closed on national holidays in October and November, as per an official notification by the Excise Department.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Liquor shops in Delhi will be closed on national holidays in October and November, including October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti) and November 15 (Guru Nanak Gurpurab).
- Dry days will be enforced from 6:00 PM on October 3 until 6:00 PM on October 5, due to upcoming elections.
- Licensed hotels with L-15 and L-15F permits can still serve liquor to residents during dry days.
New Delhi: Liquor shops in Delhi will remain closed on several national holidays in October and November, according to a notification issued by the Excise Department. In addition to national holidays, the sale of liquor will also be prohibited on specific dates for election-related reasons.
The official notification, dated September 19, stated, “In pursuance of the provisions of Rule 52 of Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, it is hereby ordered that the following dates shall be observed as 'Dry Days' in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.”
The following dry days have been declared for October:
- October 2 – Gandhi Jayanti
- October 5 – Election-related
- October 8 – Vote counting for Haryana Assembly elections
- October 12 – Dussehra
- October 17 – Valmiki Jayanti
- October 31 – Deepawali
In November, the dry days are as follows:
- November 15 – Guru Nanak Gurpurab
- November 24 – Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day
According to the notification, the dry day restrictions do not apply to hotels with L-15 and L-15F licences, allowing them to serve liquor to residents during these periods.
In another news, Delhi Police on Monday banned protests and the gathering of five or more persons in the central and bordering areas of the city for the next six days, citing law and order issues. According to an order issued from the Delhi Police Headquarters, Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has directed to impose the section 163 (which was earlier section 144 of CrPC) of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in the districts of New Delhi, North and Central and all police stations jurisdiction sharing the borders with other states. The prohibitory order will remain effective till October 5, the order stated.
"There will be heavy movement of VVIPs and dignitaries in the areas of New Delhi and Central District on October 2, on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi," it said.
