A 20-year-old student has jumped to death from her eighth-floor apartment on September 30. The deceased was pursuing law at a college in Delhi. Citing her family's statement, Police shared that she was undergoing treatment for mental health issues.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sahibabad) Rajneesh Kumar Upadhiyai said, "The law student lived with her parents in a group housing society here. On Monday, she jumped off the apartment and died. Her parents told police that she was depressed for around one-and-a-half years now. She was consulting NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences) in Bengaluru for her treatment."
The body has been sent for post mortem. Uttar Pradesh Police has sought documents related to student's treatment at NIMHANS to verify if she was actually battling mental health issues and the parents satisfactorily furnished the proof of the consultation. The Police further said that legal proceedings in the case are being carried out.
Medical Student Allegedly Commits Suicide in Prayagraj
In a seperate incident, a 28-year-old Master of Surgery student allegedly committed suicide this week. He was a student of the government-run Moti Lal Nehru Medical College and ended his life in his car at a hospital associated with the college. Probe is underway and the Police is interrogating his friends and family. He took the extreme step by allegedly injecting himself with a poisonous substance, ACP Kotwali Manoj Kumar Singh said.
