Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He became the crucial protagonist of India's freedom struggle against Britain. Schools, colleges, banks and other institutions remain closed on October 2 as it is a National Holiday. However, essential services sector like healthcare, media, petro pumps will be functional.
There are a total of three national holidays, January 26 (Republic day) , August 15 (Independence day) and October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti). October 2 is a national holiday to honor Gandhiji who is remembered as the 'Father of the Nation'.
