Itanagar: Pema Khandu is set for another term as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh after leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a landslide victory in the assembly polls, securing 46 out of 60 seats. This will be his third term as the Chief Minister of the state.
Following his re-election as the BJP legislature party leader in the state, Khandu will meet Governor KT Parnaik to stake his claim to form the government.
Since assuming the office of the Chief Minister in July 2016, Khandu and his government have twice changed their party affiliation. In September he switched from the Indian National Congress to the Peoples Party of Arunachal, and then in December 2016, he jumped the ship again to join the BJP.
Pema Khandu tweeted, "Feeling so honoured to be elected unanimously as the Legislature Party leader of @BJP4Arunachal . With utmost humility, I accept the responsibility of leading the BJP to another term of development oriented governance in sync with the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji."
He added, "I am grateful to our fellow BJP MLAs for placing their faith in me. I also put on record my sincere thanks to our MPs, party leaders, and workers for working day in and day out in ensuring resounding win the polls. Now, let's work together harder to further speed up the pace of all-round growth in Arunachal Pradesh and realize the goal of inclusive Viksit Bharat by 2047."

When Is Arunachal CM's Oath-Taking?

The swearing-in ceremony for Khandu and his cabinet colleagues is scheduled for June 13 morning. Senior BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Tarun Chugh served as observers for the election of the legislature party leader in Arunachal Pradesh.
JP Nadda, Amit Shah, Santosh, and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the convener of the North East Democratic Alliance, are likely to attend the event.
The BJP returned to power in Arunachal Pradesh, bagging 46 of the 60 seats, on June 2. National Peoples’ Party (NPP), a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), got five seats, the Nationalist Congress three, the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) two, and Congress one.
