Bollywood star Akshay Kumar opened up about the criticism he faced for his films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (2017) and Pad Man (2018). The actor is going through a tough time in his career. His recent movies, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sarfira, didn't do well at the box office and lost money for their producers.

Khel Khel Mein tackles serious issues

Even though Akshay Kumar's recent movies didn't do well, he's still choosing films with important messages. In a recent interview with India Today, he talked about his film choices and the criticism he's faced. He said his new movie, Khel Khel Mein, tackles serious issues, but in a funny way.

Akshay said, "Somethings (films and the subjects they discuss) look so good and lovely that your heart would want to do it. Many people in the industry, including my friends and (movie) critics, have asked ‘Why do you have to make films on sanitary pads and toilets.' Actor further added, "When I made a movie on sex education, a lot of people opposed me, ‘sex’s a bad thing to talk about.’ But I like to do such movies and will keep on doing them if given the opportunity."

9 Flops in last 4 years

Akshay Kumar has had a tough time with nine movie flops in the last four years. When asked about it, he joked, "I receive messages saying, ‘Sorry yaar, don’t worry. Everything will be okay.’ Abey mara nahi hoon, jo bhi kamata hoon apne dum par kamata hoon. Kisi se kuch manga nahi hai abhi, tere mein dum hai tu le ke aa abhi (But I’m not dead yet! Everything I achieve is through my own efforts. I haven’t asked anyone for anything. If you have the strength, you go ahead and bring it in yourself).”

Akshay Kumar has made movies that tackle important issues and inspire change. He's addressed topics like sanitation in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, affordable sanitary products in Pad Man, and sex education in OMG 2. Additionally, he's portrayed real-life heroes in films like Airlift, Rustom, Mission Mangal, and Mission Raniganj, showcasing his commitment to meaningful storytelling.
