Actress Aditi Dhiman is all set to mark her debut with Kamal Chandra's directorial venture Hamare Baarah. However, the film found itself embroiled in several controversies and now, on Thursday (June 13), the Supreme Court stayed on the release. Aditi, who is playing the role of Zareen is 'shocked' and never thought that a film which is all about family would come across like that in front of people.
Recently, we sat down with Aditi Dhiman, who didn't hesitate to accept the role after hearing the script and told Zoom, "I just thought that it's a very beautiful story of a family. It's a family drama, which talks about the rights of women and gives a social message. So I actually thought that it's a very good kind of project that I'm doing. I never thought that this would take such a turn. It was very shocking for me."
When asked, why she thinks the movie triggered all of a sudden, Aditi quipped, "I think they just saw the 30-second trailer and they figured it out that it's against the community. But actually it's not against any sort of community. It is against those people who use religion to promote false propaganda and it happens. It happens in every religion that certain things and you can say certain molecules, they're actually brainwashed people. So it is a fight against such people, it's not targeting any sort of religion. It is a fight against people who use religion to spread false propaganda. And basically, it's a story of a family. It's not even related to all that we have shown in the trailer. The trailer was immediately taken down because of the reaction that we got. The makers have already taken the steps to ensure, that they don't hurt someone's feelings. All the steps have been taken and people just misjudged it. They thought that it was completely based on the idea of what the trailer had shown but it's actually a story of a family."
After many ups and downs, the film was all set to hit the screens today (June 14) but according to a report from Bar and Bench, the court urged the Bombay High Court to promptly decide on a petition claiming that the film was disrespectful to the Islamic religion and Supreme Court halted the release.
Reacting to this, Aditi told us, "We just are waiting. We have all the faith in our judicial system. We know this is the least because the committee has watched the movie. They just want to ensure that nobody's hurt. They are doing their job and our makers are doing their job so whatever the verdict we'll, we are looking forward to it."
Describing her character, hopeful Aditi said that Zareen is a dreamer aspiring to be a successful singer. However, her father holds traditional beliefs, thinking women should stay home and have children instead of pursuing careers. She's determined to chase her dreams despite her father's opposition. The movie depicts her struggle and journey.
Often wondering why the ban, even after the certificate, Aditi added, "At least give us a fair chance to let people see and decide before seeing and just assuming on the basis of assumptions. I don't understand why all this is happening. I think, we should be given a fair chance at least, because things that were hurtful have been taken down already. So I'm actually not also understanding what exactly happened."
During the conversation, the actress revealed that the entire cast is receiving threats. She said, "I'm still receiving. People are using abusive language, people are saying that they would kill me, and saying that they would rape us. You know the entire cast is receiving such messages. Even in the comment section, they are commenting and people are fighting. It is very disheartening to see all that. But I think as an actor you just have to ignore it. Because I know that once the movie releases the perception of people will change."
"The people who are criticising right now would be the same people who would love us once they watch the movie. I'm hopeful about it," Aditi signed off.
