Prabhas' Kalki 2898 AD is one of the most anticipated films of 2024 starring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani, and Kamal Hassan. After the trailer dropped, Hollywood concept artists Oliver Beck and Sung Choi took to Twitter to accuse Vyjayanthi Movies of stealing their artwork. Kalki 2898 AD trailer was released on June 10 and fans went gaga over it. They instantly fell in love and are, now super excited to watch the film.

Kalki 2898 AD accused of plagiarism

In an exclusive conversation with Indian Express, Beck revealed that Kalki 2898 AD makers had initially approached him to work on the film, however, after discussions fell through, he saw his work being plagiarised in the trailer and it really upset him.
Both Oliver Beck and Sung Choi shared collages featuring their illustrations alongside stills from the trailer but later, Choi removed his tweet. Beck has maintained his accusations against the makers. He said, "Sung Choi wrote about his work being stolen in Kalki 2898 AD trailer on Twitter and then I clicked on the trailer and saw that it is inspired by my work."

Hollywood concept artist Oliver Beck on plagiarism claims

He further added, "It might be difficult to see the plagiarism when you are not an artist. You might not see it immediately but all my artist friends that I have talked to and the artist community are very clear that this was referenced from my work and you can see clearly that the main takeaways are the colour palettes, it is the same, and also the shapes. It is not an exact copy but the shapes are similar. It is too much of a coincidence because they also contacted me to work on this film. So, they know my portfolio and they have seen my work so it is too much of a coincidence."
Concluding the conversation, he said, "In case of legal repercussions, in my case, I can’t do much because my work wasn’t directly copied. In order of legal repercussions, it has to be really really obvious. Like in Sung Choi’s case because they really copy-pasted his work."
Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD will be released in theatres on June 27.
