Talking about his early days' struggle, Rohan told Zoom, "I started off my acting training in New York. I was there for four years. I had gone to my dream college, which was New York University. So, I was able to build a good community there. In the beginning, I was auditioning for projects that I thought could showcase my talent while also working part-time jobs. I worked at a gym, did desk jobs, and took on various odd jobs, all while continuing to audition for projects."
He further added, "I used to do a lot of assisting jobs on set, basically what an AD does over here as well. So, it started off like that. I did seven films, four as an AD. One of the films was with Alec Baldwin. Another was with John Malkovich and Tyrese Gibson. It was a great experience working with highly experienced actors in Hollywood."
Revealing how he started his career in Bollywood, he said, "I used to send emails to a lot of producers and directors. That would be the best way to at least get my work out there, like finding the casting director's name, email, and then I would just blind email them. Similarly, over here on WhatsApp, I used to do that. So, I got a few ads in Bangalore. One of them did well, and then I eventually got the audition for Made in Heaven."
He also spilled some beans on the major differences he saw between Hollywood and Bollywood. He said, "Basically, over there they have unions. So, we have a union for every department. It's a little more rigid and systematic. I was able to experience that professionalism even over here. It has been a very rewarding and learning experience. I'm also lucky enough to be able to do that."
"Bandish Bandits is a show where I was very attracted to the musical aspect of it. Growing up, I always wanted to play an athlete or a musician. So, I played drums growing up and thought about learning the guitar as well. The rhythm and music were already in my system, but I never pursued it professionally. However, when I got the opportunity to play either one, I decided to dive into it."
He added, "I decided to completely dive into learning whichever instrument and sport were required. That was a big motivation. I also knew about the show and that it was very successful. It was an opportunity to immerse myself in a new world. Those were the main thoughts that crossed my mind."
Talking about Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, he said, "It portrayed a very authentic world. And I think with any story, if it’s portrayed in a very genuine, honest way, it can connect universally. And with our generation and social media, I think that's not an easy topic to tackle. It could be like, this is right, this is wrong. But it wasn't like that. It's very flawed. And I think the reason why I love it so much is because every character is flawed."
Rohan spoke about his bond with Ananya and said, "She was able to come to that humane level with me, and it made things a lot easier. Otherwise, sometimes, you know, if you work with people who are already established, there may not be a connection because they are on a different level in their career. And she's also someone who has grown up in the limelight. You don't always connect with people if you're not from that background. But she was completely able to connect with me on a very humane level. And I think that's important, especially if you're portraying a certain relationship. We needed to show our relationship with each other on-screen without any backstory. I love that we started from our breakup. We had to really show that somehow. So, I think through that whole process, we got to know each other."
