I Believe Tiki Taka Will Be My KGF: Asif Ali

Malayalam actor Asif Ali, in a recent promotional interview for his upcoming film, spoke about how he had pinned his hopes on his current project Tiki Taka. Ali called the film, directed by Rohith VS, as his KGF, referring to the cult hit Kannada film starring actor Yash. Ali’s decision to call Tiki Taka as his KGF indicates that he strongly believes that this film could elevate him as an action star.

Malayalam actor Asif Ali, during the promotion of his upcoming film Thalavan, directed by Jis Joy, and co-starring Biju Menon of Ayyappanum Koshiyum fame, spoke of his current and future projects. The actor spoke in detail about his expectations from his upcoming action flick Tiki Taka, in which he said he had invested a lot as an actor in terms of physical and mental labour.

Tiki Taka, A First For Asif

During a promotional interview for Thalavan, Asif was asked whether he would like to attempt playing a complete mass hero on screen, especially in the wake of fellow actor Fahadh Faasil's recent ascent as a mass hero with a difference in the action comedy film Aavesham, which is currently taking the box office by storm. Asif, in response, spoke about his upcoming film Tiki Taka, directed by frequent collaborator, director Rohith VS, calling it a project that, in terms of mass or explosive theatre moments, was a film that he had not done before, and that could be referred to as his KGF, comparing it to the ultra-slick Kannada action film that took the nation by storm, and is now the standard as far as stylish action films go. “It is a film that demands more out of me than I have ever given for a film, and that by itself excites me.”
Asif has done action roles before in many films, but the Malayalam actor has never had a complete mass hit in all these years in the vein of commercial entertainers such as Mohanlal’s Lucifer or Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham. In fact, Asif had undergone a physical transformation of bulking up to prepare for the role, but had to pause shooting for the film because of an injury during the preparation for an intense action sequence. The actor had to undergo surgery, and has been on a period of rest, recuperation and physiotherapy, and is expected to rejoin the shoot of Tiki Taka soon.

Asif In Other Language Films

When asked why he hasn’t made a presence in any film in other Indian industries like Tamil, Telugu, or Bollywood, as his fellow actors have been doing, Asif revealed that he had been receiving many offers, but didn’t find any that were more interesting than the films he was already doing in Malayalam. “But there are some projects that I really liked, and wanted to work on, but something or the other happened, and those projects didn’t take off. But yes, I am definitely looking at making my presence felt in other language films,” the actor said.
Meanwhile, Thalavan will hit theatres on May 24.
