Is Mammootty A Part of Rajinikanth's Thalaivar 171? Kaathal The Core Actor Answers

At a promotional event of his film Kaathal The Core, Mammootty was asked if he was indeed playing a role in Rajinikanth's 171. The veteran actor clarifies.

Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj have teamed up for the first time in the actor’s 171 film which is popularly called Thalaivar 171. Given that this is superstar's much-awaited project, rumors were rife that Malayalam actor Mammootty is expected to be a part of the biggie, which will for on floors from March 2024.

For the unversed, both Rajinikanth and Mammootty previously worked together in director Mani Ratnam's commercially and critically successful 1991 film Thalapathi. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting to watch them in another movie together.

Mammootty in Thalaivar 171?

During the promotional interview of his film Kaathal The Core, Mammootty was asked if he was part of Rajinikanth's next to which he said "There is no truth in the news." The anchor later went on to ask if Mammotty will be a part of the LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe), to which he responded "Isn't Malayalam cinema enough for me ? Let them call. Will think about it."

About Thalaivar 171

In an interview, Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that he loves seeing Rajinikanth’s starry avatar, which portrays his style and swag He added that he loves the Jailer actor’s negative shade on the big screen, and he hopes to bring it in his film.

Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that the story of Thalaivar 171 was written a long time ago. It is an experimental film. Director Lokesh also confirmed that Thalaivar 171 will be a standalone movie and will not be part of Lokesh Cinematic Universe.

Rajinikanth is currently working on Thalaivar 170, which is directed by TJ Gnanavel. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh.
