About O2

Rapid achievements in science and technology have paved the way for astonishing findings in the past few decades. What humans are yet to find a solution to, is bring a dead person back to life!
Tremendous research in the field of medicine has certainly saved millions of lives. However, can a person who is medically declared dead be brought back to life? The film 02 talks about one such possibility with a nice spin on how life goes on.

The ‘Dead’ Story

The film begins to breathe with Dr Shraddha Nayak (Ashika Ranganath), the second youngest doctor in India at the age of 18, determined to put her medical research to the test!
Soon, O2 goes into a flashback to Shraddha's childhood in which she witnesses her father's death.
Back to the present, Shraddha, who now has an MD in Anesthesiology and is doing research on bringing the dead back to life with an O2 administration, is trying hard to convince the medical council for approval to test her findings on humans! Will she get permission for conducting human trials? That is what the rest of the film deals with.
Two more characters play pivotal roles in the film. One is Osho (Ragahava Nayak), a Radio Jockey who falls in love with Shraddha and the other is Dr Dev (Praveen Tej), who assists her in her research.

Clinical Errors

At the outset, the film sounds intriguing and talks about an irreversible human condition. The premise of the film on several counts makes it hard to digest medical facts. As the makers claim that there are several such types of research going on with hardly any successful human trials, the shortcomings are a cause of worry. Moreover, the film requires some amount of medical knowledge as this one is certainly not everybody's cup of tea.
A medical student or doctor with a fascination to bring the dead back to life may enjoy this thriller. However, the spin in the latter part of the tale offers some relief with the message that no matter what, life moves on.
What works in the film is that it presents life and death with a glimmer of hope in the end.

The Doctors

Actress Ashika Ranganath, who is often seen in glamourous roles in films, plays an ambitious doctor in O2. Praveen Tej, Raghava Nayak, Prakash Belawadi and Siri Ravikumar support the on-screen cause to keep the medical thriller engaging to some extent. Barring the excessive usage of English and some dull moments, the film mainly deserves appreciation for its experimental attempt to deliver fresh content to the Kannada silver screen.

Verdict

Barring hard-to-digest medical facts and claims, O2 comes with enough oxygen to keep the film alive and kicking till the end. Watch it for its honest attempt and Power Star Dr Puneeth Rajkumar's stamp of approval.
