Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film stars Sai Pallavi alongside Sivakarthikeyan, with the film produced by Kamal Haasan under the banner Raaj Kamal International.

In a recent promotional event for the film, Indhu Rebecca Varghese joined team Amaran through a chat in front of a live audience.
When asked about her first reaction to Rajkumar’s idea of making Amaran, a film about her husband, Indhu said, “When sir came to talk about the film, the first thing that hit me was how Mukund loved Kamal Haasan sir. He often keeps quoting Anbe Sivam. The first thing I thought was that… he would be excited.”

She also said she didn't want to get wallowed in grief She said "Mukund passed away in 2014, and for the first couple of years, I was attending a lot of events. Yes, there was pride, but it was also a lot of sadness in reliving the grief all over again. Then, I decided to stop going to these events because I had to be there for my daughter. I couldn’t wallow in my grief. But then, I also had the guilt that I hadn’t talked about Mukund in over eight years.”
Indhu went on to recall about an older interview where she was asked if Major Mukund would be remembered by the public. “I knew we would, and the rest is their responsibility. When Rajkumar sir came and spoke to me, I saw it as the universe telling me that I should do something more. This is solely for Mukund. I want to bring him back to life, and relive the moments. Yes, it is hard for all of us. It is bittersweet. It will be happy, sad, and of course… a moment of pride.”
Amaran also stars Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Mohan, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman and Gaurav Venkatesh in the supporting roles. It is an adaptation of the book series India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh, which is based on Mukund Varadarajan.
