Karan B Oberoi is known for being a part of an Indipop boy band, A Band Of Boys, formed in 2001. He also played the role of Raghav in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin. The year 2019 turned out to be unfortunate for the actor as he was jailed after being accused of rape and extortion. Karan spent over a month in custody but the case against him is still going on. In a recent interview, Karan talked about the horrifying experience of his jail time and how he almost died.

Karan Oberoi talks about his time in jail

In a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Karan Oberoi said that he was given the task of cleaning toilets when he was in jail. “It was a dark phase in my life. It was like visiting pataal lok (hell) for me. Like how did I land here? There were people around me who had murdered so many people. There too, there were some hardened criminals, who were protecting me,” he said.
Karan further said that he didn’t eat and sleep for seven days when he first landed in jail. “When you don’t know if you are going to survive tomorrow because you can possibly die in these conditions. I didn’t eat anything for the first seven days. For the first nine days, I didn’t sleep. I was getting delirious. In that delirious state, I was starting to feel like I might not be able to finish this journey,” he said.
The actor further shared, “I almost died because of asphyxiation in an episode. I don’t want to discuss it but I thought this is the end, I could see my life flash in front of my eyes. I have claustrophobia and they put me in a place… kaal kothri mein daal dia tha and I thought this is the end of my life.”

What was the case about?

A 34-year-old woman filed a case against Karan saying that she was raped between January 2017 and February 2018 by him. She also said that the actor had promised her marriage. The police arrested Oberoi the next day and he spent a month in jail before being released on bail. The woman filed a second FIR for assault when Karan was in jail. She claimed she was being threatened to withdraw her complaint. The Mumbai Police arrested her on charges of criminal conspiracy and filing false information in an FIR. In 2023, she was also fined Rs 20,000.
