Smriti Irani doesn’t need any introduction. The actress shot to fame with her iconic character Tulsi in the show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Smriti became famous in every household due to the Ekta Kapoor show. In 2001, Smriti got married to businessman Zubin Irani. Recently, in an interview, the former actress-turned-politician revealed that she said no to Aamir Khan-starrer Dil Chahta Hai’s auditions.

Why did Smriti Irani say no to Dil Chahta Hai auditions?

Smriti Irani was one of the highest-paid actresses in the TV industry back in the 2000s. Despite being a popular actress, Smriti always gave priority to her family. She was never in the race to earn money by attending various events. In fact, she prioritised motherhood over Bollywood.

Smriti Irani said that she was offered lead roles in several Bollywood movies just three months after starting shooting for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. She had decided to become a mother rather than becoming a heroine of a Bollywood film.
In fact, Smriti Irani said no to the Dil Chahta Hai auditions. For those who’ve come in late, the Bollywood film was one of the biggest hits of 2001. Directed by Farhan Akhtar, it starred Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia in the lead roles.
In an interview with Brut, the actress said, “I have seen one of those movies, Dil Chahta Hai, which I said no to for auditioning. And they were like ‘are you mad? This is Dil Chahta Hai’. I said no, I don’t want to, because I knew I wanted to have a baby. It was not Preity Zinta for sure but it was one of the other ladies who was there. One of the other leading ladies. Why would I go and audition for something which I know I would not do. Not for the lack of it, not to stand next to some film star.”
Smriti doesn’t have any regrets saying no to big Bollywood movies back in her days. For those who’ve come in late, she is currently actively working in politics. She is the union minister who represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
