In April, Rufus Sewell played disgraced royal Prince Andrew in the Netflix film Scoop. Michael Sheen is the latest actor to play Prince Andrew in Amazon Prime Video's A Very Royal Scandal. The three-part series will cover the same events as the Netflix film and recount his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and the disastrous 2019 Newsnight interview that led to him stepping down from public life. The interview went viral, and the prince was widely criticised for not mentioning any of the victims in the sex trafficking scandal. The Amazon Prime Video series will premiere on September 19.

Besides Sheen as Prince Andrew, A Very Royal Scandal has Ruth Wilson as BBC interviewer Emily Maitlis. The journalist is also an executive producer on the project. The first look image recreates the infamous interview at Buckingham Palace between Andrew and Maitlis.

The official synopsis of the series states, "One night. One hour. One interview that sent shockwaves around the globe. Based on the real-life 2019 interview between Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew over the scandalous accusations he faced regarding his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre. A Very Royal Scandal follows the action of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.”

About A Very Royal Scandal

The rest of the cast of A Very Royal Scandal includes Joanna Scanlan as Prince Andrew’s private secretary Amanda Thirsk, Eanna Hardwicke as Newsnight's deputy editor Stewart, Alexander Owen as investigations producer Jake Morris, Sam Troughton as Queen Elizabeth II’s communications secretary Donal McCabe, Claire Rushbrook as Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew's ex-wife, and Clare Calbraith as Newsnight booker Sam Mcalister.

Netflix's Scoop was based on Sam Mcalister's book on the interview experience. Gillian Anderson played Maitlis in the feature film. A Very Royal Scandal is directed by The Crown's Julian Jarrold and written by The Last King of Scotland screenwriter Jeremy Brock. The three-part show is part limited series anthology that follows A Very English Scandal starring Hugh Grant, and A Very British Scandal with Paul Bettany and Claire Foy.
