Gary Oldman, an Emmy nominee for his lead role as head spook Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses, has had several iconic roles in his career including Winston Churchill and Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films. HBO is rebooting the franchise with a TV series set to premiere in 2026. Oldman revealed his soft spot for his Harry Potter character and shared that he'd want to come back as another in the show.

Gary Oldman open to return to Harry Potter universe

On the red carpet at the 76th Emmy Awards, the Oscar winner said that no one had approached him yet for the series. The film franchise, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, featured the who's who of the British industry from the late Richard Harris to Maggie Smith. He told Indiewire about his character, "I love Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil.”
The veteran actor appeared in four films - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - even though his character died. Oldman added, "I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people. Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.”

Writer and creator Will Smith won Outstanding Writing on Drama Series for the episode, Negotiating with Tigers. Oldman and his co-star Jack Lowden were both nominated in the lead and supporting actor categories respectively.
