Kit Harington Shares Why Jon Snow Spinoff Fell Through: Nothing Got Us Excited Enough

For several years, fans were expecting news on the Jon Snow sequel spinoff starring Kit Harington. Instead, we've seen other prequel spinoffs like House of the Dragon and A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms which is releasing next year. In a recent interview, Kit revealed why he decided to let go of starring as Jon Snow one more time in his career.

Kit Harington on Jon Snow Spinoff

The Jon Snow spinoff is officially dead. At one point, both HBO and Kit were keen to explore Jon's life after his banishment after the 2019 finale of Game of Thrones. In an interview with GQ, the actor shared that HBO first came to him with the project and asked him to consider playing Jon again.

He said, "My first reaction was no. And then I thought there could be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I felt that there might be something left to say and a story left to tell in a pretty limited way. We spent a couple of years back and forth developing it. And it just didn't... nothing got us excited enough. In the end, I kind of backed out and said, ‘I think if we push this any further and keep developing it we could end up with something that's not good. And that's the last thing we all want.’”

Kit, who is married to his Game of Thrones co-star Rose Leslie, also added that being on the show would be "the biggest, most important piece of work" he did. The actor agreed with the criticism Game of Thrones final season received and said it felt a bit rushed and some mistakes were made in the narrative. He said that the cast was very tired by the last season and didn't want to go on any longer.

Kit Harington's upcoming projects

The actor is newest addition to the cast of another HBO series Industry. He joins the third season of the drama series as Henry Muck. Kit is currently acting on the West End in Slave Play and has the feature films The Beast Within and Eternal Return with Naomi Scott lined up this year.
