Latest OTT Releases This Weekend: What To Watch On Netflix, Jio Cinema, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Hotstar
It's a busy week in OTT as several new shows and limited series are making their debuts. After Netflix's Scoop took on the infamous Prince Andrew BBC interview, it is now the turn of Amazon Prime Video's limited series A Very Royal Scandal to tell the story from a different angle. Premiering on September 19, it looks at the Prince Andrew's (Michael Sheen) interview from journalist Emily Maitlis's (Ruth Wilson) perspective. The streamer will also launch Thalaivettiyan Paalayam, the Tamil remake of The Viral Fever's award-winning hit Panchayat, on September 20. Finally, the festival film His Three Daughters, starring Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Elizabeth Olsen, premieres on the same day too. The Netflix film follows three estranged sisters who reunite to care for their sick father. Which of these titles, including the ones listed below, will you tune in for this weekend?
Agatha All Along on Disney+ Hotstar
Cast: Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Aubrey PlazaRelease date: September 19
About the series: The spinoff series to Marvel's WandaVision focuses on the powerful witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) as she looks back to gain her mojo with the help of an enthusiastic familiar named Teen (Joe Locke). They assemble a coven to go down the witches' road and gain back the power they've lost. In typical Marvel style, there's plenty of lore and comic book info to catch up on. The dramedy is the perfect start for Halloween.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix
Cast: Nicholas Chavez, Cooper Koch, Javier Bardem, Chlo? SevignyRelease date: September 19
About the series: After Jeffery Dahmer, it's the turn of the Menendez brothers to have their story immortalised in a Netflix series in Ryan Murphy's Monster anthology. The first series came under controversy from victims' families, who said it tended to sympathise with the serial killer. Murphy's latest follows brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who killed their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion after years of alleged abuse. The series recreates their trial, which became'must-see TV' across America in the 1990s.
The Penguin on JioCinema
Cast: Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy FelizRelease date: September 20
About the series: Oscar nominee Colin Farrell debuted his version of The Penguin, aka Oz Cobb, in Matt Reeves's feature film The Batman in 2022. But there's more to his story here in The Penguin spinoff series as the slimy second in command to Carmine Falcone (Mark Strong) tries to outsmart his late boss's family and make a play for his business himself. The gritty DC drama is a compelling tale to watch as we wait for Robert Pattinson to make a return in The Batman Part II.
