Chewing ginger for heart attack

A heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is severely reduced or cut off

A heart attack is a medical emergency which needs immediate medical treatment to save a person's life. According to experts, heart problems always show signs and symptoms before the condition comes up, which you may be ignoring for some time. There are a few people who propagate desi or local treatments and cures for serious diseases which may not hold any water. On the internet, chewing ginger has been proclaimed as one of the best ways you can save your life if you have a heart attack. Is it true?
Also known as myocardial infarction, a heart attack occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is severely reduced or cut off. This can happen when coronary arteries narrow due to a buildup of plaque, which is made up of cholesterol, fat, and other substances.
And so, when plaque breaks, a blood clot forms that can block an artery and prevent blood from reaching the heart muscle. Without oxygen, the heart muscle's cells begin to die, causing permanent damage within 30 minutes. If blood flow is not restored quickly, a heart attack can be fatal.

Is ginger helpful in stopping heart attacks?

Doctors say chewing ginger during a heart attack is just a myth and no research has been done to date that proves this claim. Renowned neurologist Dr. Sudhir Kumar has stated that in medical science, aspirin is the recommended medicine which can be used if a person suffers a sudden heart attack.
Dr. Sudhir said if you are experiencing a heart attack, you must immediately pop in aspirin. “You should not wait for the hospital to give the medicine. Rather aspirin should be given to a patient immediately if he/she faces a heart attack. It is crucial to visit a doctor but giving aspirin immediately can highly increase the survival chance of the patient,” he told a news portal.
Studies say, among natural entities, ginger is an extensively used and well-known functional food and condiment, possessing plentiful bioactivities, like anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties in several disorders management.

How does aspirin work in a heart attack?

Experts say apart from relieving pain, aspirin helps get more blood flowing to your legs. It can treat a heart attack and prevent blood clots when you have an abnormal heartbeat. It also lowers fever and reduces inflammation. Blood clots are the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes.
According to Harvard Health, taking a regular dose of aspirin diminishes the ability of your blood to clump together into clots by targeting the body’s smallest blood cells. Called platelets, they bind together when they encounter damaged blood vessels.
