After having a baby, a woman's body needs time to heal and rest and so does her mind. It is important to note that the postpartum phase is very crucial for a woman's health. Dr Kritika Bolia, Cosultant at Motherhood Hospitals in Pune spoke to Times Now Digital and explained certain things about Postpartum Yoga. On being asked about the right time to start exercising, she said, "Gentle movements or exercises like walking, yoga, or stretching can be started a few weeks after the delivery, as they generally cause no harm to the body and help in speedy recovery. If you were actively engaged in performing physical activities and exercises before and during pregnancy this recovery journey can be less stressful. However, wait till 6 weeks after postpartum to start with high-intense activities such as weightlifting, hitting the gym, running, aerobics, or Pilates."
Yoga and other exercises are accompanied with a multiple benefits, especially after delivery. It includes:

? Improves your cardiovascular health, strength, balance, and flexibility
? Boosts your mood and energy levels and immune system
? Significantly reducing the symptoms of postpartum depression

Apart from yoga, you can also practice strength training and endurance training. Dr Kritika explained, "Kegel or pelvic floor exercise can be beneficial in various ways such as helping in improving bladder control while reducing urine leakage which is quite common after the delivery. She added, "It is essential to find the right muscle, so for that women are supposed to lie or sit down in a comfortable position."
Endurance training can be another mode of workout that is great for women in their postpartum. It includes various types of activities such as walking, swimming, cycling, running and dancing. However, it is necessary that you talk to an expert before deciding upon anything and do what is recommended.
