Monsoon Status in Hyderabad

After an initial burst of rainfall at the beginning of the month, the southwest monsoon has temporarily eased, leading to hot and humid conditions in Hyderabad and across Telangana, interspersed with sporadic showers. However, significant changes are expected as monsoon activity is anticipated to intensify starting from June 24th. Meteorologists from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) also suggest the possibility of a low-pressure system or cyclone formation in the Arabian Sea or Bay of Bengal, which could enhance widespread rainfall, as reported by The Hindu.
According to weather forecast consultant Y.V. Rama Rao on Wednesday, the monsoon arrived several days early on June 3, unlike its usual scheduled date of June 8. While there were a few days of substantial rainfall initially, the monsoon weakened rather than progressing further into peninsular India. Rao reassured that there is no cause for alarm, as the major rainfall months, July and August, are still ahead. During the current southwest monsoon season from June to September, the state typically receives 80 per cent or 74 cm of its total annual rainfall of 91.9 cm. By June 19th, the state had already received 8.5 cm of rainfall, slightly above the normal 7.8 cm for this period, representing a 9 per cent deviation. Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, rainfall measured 9.5 cm, compared to the normal 6.7 cm, indicating a deviation of 40 per cent.
