'A Masterstroke': Indian Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi On Israel Pager Attacks In Lebanon
Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogues, the Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said that "the war does not start the way you start fighting. It starts the day you start planning. The shell company which had been created is something which is a masterstroke by the Israelis. And for that, it requires years and years of preparation. So it means they were prepared for it."
Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi
Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday hailed Israel's establishment of a shell company to manufacture 'explosive pagers' sent to Lebanon as a "masterstroke" in its efforts to undermine the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group. The explosives hidden in communication devices, used by Hezbollah members, detonated last month, resulting in the deaths of nearly 40 people, including children, and injuring over 3,000 others.

Further, elaborating on what India is doing to tackle such issues, Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi said, "Coming on to our side, supply chain interruption, interception is something we have to be very watchful of. We have to have various levels of inspection whether it is at the technological level as well as manual level to make sure such things do not get repeated in our case."
Pager Blasts In Lebanon
Several explosions involving pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon resulted in nearly 40 deaths and over 3,000 injuries last month. According to three Israeli intelligence officers cited by the New York Times, the company that produced the devices was actually a shell firm set up by Mossad, allowing them to tamper with the equipment before it was shipped to Lebanon.
Pagers, wireless communication devices used by members of the Hezbollah exploded simultaneously across Lebanon and parts of Syria at around 3:30 pm local time in Lebanon (6 pm IST) on September 17.
News agency Reuters, quoting a senior Lebanese security source, reported that the pagers exploded when a coded message was sent to them, simultaneously activating the explosives.
"Mossad injected a board inside the device that has explosive material that receives a code. It's very hard to detect it through any means. Even with any device or scanner," the source told Reuters.
