Seven days back, an intense anti-terror operation began in the dense Gadole forest area of Kokernag, in Anantnag district of South Kashmir and as the gunfight continues, another Indian Army jawan has been found dead.
The body of Sepoy Pradeep Singh, who was missing since September 13, was found at approximately 5 pm on September 18. He was part of Kokernag operation.
Sepoy Pradeep Singh was with the Sikh Light Infantry and was part of 19 Rashtriya Rifles. The 27-year-old soldier, with seven years of service in the Army, was from Punjab’s Patiala, and is survived by his wife. The joint operation by the Army and Police was launched on Tuesday night last week after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. The intense gunfight between the security forces and Pakistani terrorists has lasted more than 100 hours now. Hundreds of soldiers of the Army, paratroopers, J&K Police, and paramilitary commandos are involved in the search operation inside the forests of Gadol.
In the gunfight, three security personnel, including two Indian Army Officers and one Jammu and Kashmir DSP sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Commanding Officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonchak of the 19 RR, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat were martyred on the first day of the encounter as the officers were leading from the front. A fire was reported inside a terrorist hideout in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Sunday.
