Haryana Election: Congress-AAP Alliance Talks Hit A Roadblock Over Seat-Sharing Disputes
AAP has requested 10 out of the 90 assembly seats, but Congress is only prepared to offer five seats as part of a broader arrangement with other alliance partners. Sources indicate that consensus has not been reached on which specific seats will be ceded to AAP. The state leadership has been tasked with identifying these seats, but some leaders, including JP Jaiprakash and Randeep Surjewala, have expressed reluctance.

Negotiations between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress for a potential alliance in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections have reached a significant deadlock. Despite several meetings, including recent talks between AAP's Raghav Chaddha and Congress's Deepak Babaria, the parties have been unable to finalise a seat-sharing agreement.
Congress MP Jai Prakash is particularly insistent on allowing his son to contest from the Kalayat constituency, further complicating the negotiations.
AAP has stated that if the alliance does not materialise, it is ready to contest 50 seats independently. The party plans to release its first list of candidates by Sunday and expects to gain support from several disaffected Congress and BJP leaders before the elections.
Internal dissent within Congress has also surfaced over the potential alliance. Some leaders, such as Captain Ajay Singh Yadav, have voiced concerns about partnering with AAP, citing its limited base in Haryana.
On Friday, Congress released its first list of 31 candidates, featuring notable figures like former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state Congress chief Udai Bhan. The party has also fielded Vinesh Phogat and Mewa Singh in key constituencies.
With the October 5 election date approaching, the likelihood of a Congress-AAP alliance remains uncertain. Deepak Babaria, Congress's AICC in-charge of Haryana, confirmed that discussions with AAP and other parties, including CPI(M) and the Samajwadi Party, are ongoing as they prepare for the upcoming polls.
