New Delhi: Military personnel from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force celebrated International Yoga Day on Friday, performing yoga asanas in various weather conditions across the country. Army jawans participated in yoga sessions on diverse terrains. Navy personnel showcased their yoga skills onboard the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and other naval ships.
In New Delhi, Air Force personnel gathered at the Air Force Station for the event, led by Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari. The theme for this year's International Day of Yoga (IDY) was "Yoga for Self and Society." The IAF Chief encouraged everyone to embrace yoga for mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi attended a session at Chanakya Bagh in the capital. Indian naval warships deployed across the Indian Ocean Region and Western Pacific Ocean conducted yoga sessions at sea and in foreign ports, including Djibouti, Port Louis, Salalah, Trincomalee, and Belawan, spreading the spirit of yoga internationally.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations in Srinagar. Several Union ministers participated in yoga sessions across New Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined the celebrations in Mathura, while Army Chief General Manoj Pande also participated. Soldiers performed yoga near Pangong Lake in Ladakh.
In Delhi, a large yoga session took place at Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment, led by Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Personnel, defence attaches, their families, and NCC cadets participated.
The Navy performed various yoga asanas, including 'Surya Namaskar,' onboard ships like INS Tarkash and INS Teg. The Eastern Naval Command shared photos of their sessions at sea, on beaches, and at naval stations along the Eastern Seaboard.
Eight lakh National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets also celebrated the day, participating in yoga sessions across the country, including iconic locations like the Sun Temple in Konark, Red Fort in Delhi, Dal Lake in Srinagar, and Gateway of India in Mumbai.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) organised yoga sessions at over 60 locations, with the main event in New Delhi led by Director General Rakesh Pal, attended by over 1,000 personnel and their families. DG Rakesh Pal emphasised the importance of integrating yoga into daily life, especially for those in demanding roles like the Coast Guard.
