Ajit Pawar's NCP won just one seats out of the four seats it fought in Maharashtra. New Delhi: NCP leader Ajit Pawar - who suffered a crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha polls - used the party's foundation day platform to thank his estranged uncle Sharad Pawar for leading the party since its inception in 1999. Ajit Pawar's NCP won just one seats out of the four seats it fought in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Pawar Sr put up a stunning performance by snaring eight of the 10 Lok Sabha seats it had contested on, clocking the best strike rate in Maharashtra - this despite losing the name and symbol to Ajit Pawar's camp.
"I wish to thank Sharad Pawar for leading the party for the last 24 years, along with those who have remained with it since its inception," Ajit Pawar said.
Ajit Pawar, who was considered No.2 in NCP, led a vertical split in the party and joined hands with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in July 2023. He was made Deputy Chief Minister in Maha Yuti government headed by Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde. "I can assure everyone that our ideology is based on the teachings of Shivaji Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, and Babasaheb Ambedkar," Ajit Pawar, who is Deputy CM in Shinde government, asserted.

At the party function in Mumbai, Ajit Pawar also said that his camp will not accept any post lower than the Cabinet portfolio in the Narendra Modi 3.0 government. "They (BJP) told us that they need to give Cabinet posts to many of its constituents," he said.
Ajit Pawar 'Upset' Over Portfolio Allotment: Sources
Ajit Pawar has turned down the Minister of State's post offered by the BJP in the new cabinet, insisting that it is "ready to wait" for that cabinet berth. His camp has argued that Praful Patel, who was a former cabinet minister in Manmohan Singh government, is too senior a figure to hold an junior minister's post.
Praful Patel has also publicly expressed his displeasure over the portfolio offered by the BJP, saying that the MoS (Minister of State) portfolio allotment is a demotion. He was Minister of Heavy Industries from 2011 to 2014 in the Manmohan Singh government.
The Ajit Pawar camp, however, underlined their support for the Modi government.
Opposition Alliance Takes Potshots At Ajit Pawar
Leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi opposition alliance on Monday took potshots at the two leaders over the "minuscule" representation to the two parties in the Modi cabinet.
"This is what you get when you decide to be someone’s slaves," Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters.
Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said Ajit Pawar "must have realised albeit late that the BJP has a use and throw policy for its allies"
The BJP and its NDA partners had a disappointing show in Maharashtra, winning just 17 of its 48 Lok Sabha seats. Of these, the BJP won nine, the Sena faction seven, and Ajit Pawar's NCP one. In 2019 the BJP got 23 and the Sena (then undivided) 18.
