New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea demanding lowering the cut-off for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). The plea was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud. The bench observed that the lowering of the cut-off would affect the quality of lawyers who are admitted to the bar, reported The Live Law. The CJI also asked the petitioners to study.
The CJI told the petitioners that the Bar Council of India has decided the cut off 45 per cent for the general category and 40 for SC/ST. He remarked that what kind of lawyer the person would be if they could not score this much. The plea sought to reduce the cut-off marks from 40 to 35.
“They have put a cut-off of 45 for the general category and 40 for SC/ST. What kind of lawyer will the person be if they cannot score this much? You are asking to lower it to 40 and 35!” CJI said. "Padho bhai!" he added.
