New Delhi: Pema Khandu is set to become the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third time in a row today. The BJP leader will take oath this morning in Itanagar in a grand ceremony that will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda.
Pema Khandu led the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh to secucre a landslide victory in the assembly polls, winning 46 seats in the 60-member assembly. National People's Party won five seats and the Nationalist Congress Party won three seats. Two seats were won by the People's Party of Arunachal, and one by Congress. Three Independent have also won their seat in the recently concluded assembly polls.

Upon the lifting of central rule, he became a minister in the Kalikho Pul-led government, supported by the BJP. The government, however, fell within a short time. Khandu subsequently became the Chief Minister in July 2016 at the age of 37.
In 2019, he was re-elected from the Mukto assembly seat and assumed office as Chief Minister without political challenge.
Beyond politics, Khandu is known for promoting culture and sports in the state. An avid music enthusiast, he enthrals audiences with renditions of classics by Kishore Kumar and Mohammad Rafi at official gatherings.
Khandu also actively organizes cricket tournaments and supports local athletes, nurturing talent across various disciplines including football, cricket, badminton, and volleyball.
A history graduate from Delhi's Hindu College, Khandu belongs to the Monpa tribe, primarily inhabiting Tawang and parts of West Kameng.
During the assembly polls held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, Khandu campaigned on a platform of corruption-free governance, emphasizing transparency and people-centric policies.
A Buddhist by faith, the 45-year-old Khandu has been re-elected unopposed from the Mukto seat in the border district of Tawang.
