Bengaluru: Suraj Revanna, a Janata Dal (Secular) leader and brother of Prajwal Revanna, who is facing accusations of sexually assaulting multiple women, claimed that he was threatened with a false sexual assault allegation by a man. The police later booked a JD(S) worker and his kin for allegedly attempting to extort money from Suraj Revanna by threatening to file a false sexual assault case against him.
The complaint was filed by Suraj Revanna’s close aide, Shivakumar, on Friday, which led to an FIR against the man and his brother-in-law. On the same day, the man also filed a police complaint, accusing Suraj Revanna of sexually assaulting him.
Suraj Revanna is the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna and the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is in police custody for allegedly sexually assaulting several women.
In the police complaint, Shivakumar claimed that the man became his friend and began working for the 'Suraj Revanna Brigade'. Recently, he asked for money to cover family expenses, however, when Shivakumar refused, he threatened to file a police complaint accusing Suraj Revanna of sexually assaulting him, the complaint said.
Shivakumar further alleged that he initially demanded Rs 5 crore, which was later reduced to Rs 2 crore.
Based on this complaint, the police registered a case against the man and his brother-in-law under IPC sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
This comes several days after former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was sent to judicial custody in the sex tapes case. Amid the controversy, the suspended JD(S) leader lost to Congress' Shreyas M Patel in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency.
Revanna was arrested upon his return to India from Germany on May 30. Accused of sexually abusing women, the former Hassan MP left India on April 27, immediately after the second phase of voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
The sexual abuse allegations surfaced when several pen drives, allegedly containing explicit videos involving Prajwal, were flooded on social media.
