Mumbai: A four-member team of the Mumbai Police met Bollywood actor Salman Khan and recorded his statement in connection with the incident of firing outside the family's residence in April. Salman Khan's brother, Arbaaz, also gave the statement to the police at the actor's flat in Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. An officer of Mumbai Crime Branch was also present at the time of reording of the statement. Two motorbike-borne men associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang fired multiple rounds outside the actor's residence in the early hours of April 14.
Salman Khan's statement was recorded for three hours, while Arbaaz's statement was recorded for two hours, officials said. After recording the statements of Salman and Arbaaz, the Crime Branch team left Salman's house at 5:30 pm on June 4.
In his statement, which ran to nine pages, Salman told the police that there was a party at his house, due to which he slept late and woke up after hearing sounds of bullets. Salman Khan said that the incident was very serious.
Actor Arbaaz Khan was not present at the spot at the time of the firing incident. His statement was recorded since he was present with Salman during previous incidents, officials said.
So far, the Crime Branch has recorded the statements of 29 people in connection with the case. Salman Khan's father Salim Khan was also present at home at the time of the firing incident but the police has not recorded his statement due to his old age.
"His statement will be recorded if the Crime Branch feels there a need in near future," the source said.
The official also said that the process of taking custody of Lawrence Bishnoi from Sabarmati Central Prison in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad will also start soon.
A total of seven persons have been arrested in the case so far. One of them, Anuj Thapan, allegedly hanged himself in police lock-up on May 1.
In a separate case, Navi Mumbai Police earlier this month arrested five persons, including an alleged member of Bishnoi and Goldier Brar gangs from Haryana, in connection with a plot to attack Salman Khan.
Four gang members had recced Khan's farmhouse in Panvel and places he visited for film shooting, police had said.
Lawrence Bishnoi is currently lodged in the Sabarmati jail in a different case.
