Bangladeshi MP Murder Case

The Bangladeshi MP was reported missing on May 18 from Baranagar.

Kolkata: The accused dismembered the body of the Bangladeshi Member of Parliament (MP) and used a meat grinder to mince the flesh to dispose of the body without leaving any traces after allegedly killing 56-year-old Anwarul Azim Anar, according to the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID). One of the suspects, Siam Hossain, bought the grinder for Rs 2,200 from a shop in Kolkata's New Market, revealed investigation. The grinder was allegedly used to eliminate evidence.
Anwar's body was dismembered by the accused, who then placed the pieces into plastic bags and disposed of them in various locations around New Town and the Bagjola Canal. According to a TOI report, CID officials claimed that the entire body could not be minced with the grinder, so small pieces were discarded in the septic tank of the New Town apartment where the MP was staying. On June 9, the CID discovered bones of a "male human" on a canal bank in South 24 Parganas. Two days later, police recovered several kilograms of flesh from the septic tank of an apartment in North 24 Parganas.
"Preliminary reports have confirmed that the flesh belongs to a human being. We will now conduct DNA tests to determine if it belongs to the Bangladeshi MP. That will take some time," a CID official told PTI.
Akhtaruzzaman, the primary suspect, was a close friend of the MP and allegedly paid Rs 5 crore to those involved in the crime. He is currently residing in the US.
Investigators are actively seeking to identify the exact locations where the murder weapons were obtained to collect corresponding CCTV footage. Mohammad Harunor Rashid, head of the detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, revealed that Saidul Karim Mintu, the Jhenaidah district Awami League general secretary, has been arrested in connection with the case. Rashid said, “Mintu is currently on remand, and authorities are investigating his potential role as a financier or instigator of the crime.”
In their submission to the court, Dhaka police stated that Mintu, during initial questioning, confessed to regular communication with Shimul Bhuiyan, one of the accused. Mintu confessed that on the night of 16 May at around 10:30 pm, he discussed the MP’s abduction with Shimul via WhatsApp. The following day, Shimul and another suspect, Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, secretly met in a car to plan the abduction and subsequent murder of Anar, along with the financial transactions involved.
Hussain informed the police that some parts of the MP's body were put into a trolley suitcase and dumped near the Bongaon border in Bangladesh. He also revealed that a woman assisted the other accused in strangling Anwar. Reports suggest that this woman is the girlfriend of Akhtaruzzaman, a US national and allegedly the primary suspect in the case.
