The extended list for 2024’s roundup of the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Bars list was just announced and four Indian names have been recognised among them. The list, featuring bars from the 51st to 100th spot is an eclectic mix across 19 Asian cities and features 15 new entries this year. India has been making quite the splash in the mixology world over the last few years and having four names on the extended list proves that the country’s bars are quickly becoming mainstays in the global cocktail world.
The Bombay Canteen took the lead on the list in the 59th position followed by Lair, New Delhi at 68, Sidecar at 84 and Home at the 96th spot. This year the top spot on the extended list goes to Backdoor Bodega, Penang at 51. Competition is stiff to be included on this prestigious list with 265 industry professionals voting anonymously to pick the best of the best every year. The top 50 are set to be announced on 16th July at an awards ceremony at Rosewood Hong Kong, but until then, let's take a closer look at the Indian winners on the extended list.

#59 The Bombay Canteen, Mumbai

Best known for shining a spotlight on regional Indian cuisines through a food menu that celebrates indigenous ingredients, it’s sometimes easy to forget that they’re also doling out some delicious cocktails. The only Mumbai bar on the extended list, they were recognised at the 35th spot last year for their signature cocktails that include Indian themes like the Tamarind Whisky Shake, the Curbside – a boozy take on a Ganga Jamuna juice – or their large fishbowl cocktails which add to the festive atmosphere.

#68 Lair, New Delhi

Having placed at number 3 on India’s Top 30 Bars list, this spot is known for bucking tradition and going all out with its experimental cocktails. Whether it’s exploring East Asian flavours with drinks like the Passiflora Punch with Aperol, lime, passionfruit and blossom water or creative reimagings of classics like The Wisdom with Pine Needle Whisky, Prekese Bark and Dry Vermouth, they like to play with flavours.

#84 Sidecar, New Delhi

Having placed at 18 on last year’s list and being named India’s best bar earlier this year, it’s a slight surprise to see sidecar on the extended list in 2024. Headed by Yangdup Lama and Minakshi Singh, this bar is dedicated to crafting cocktails that balance timeless elegance and modern flair. The bar’s interpretation of its namesake cocktail takes pride of place on the menu, combining cognac, bourbon, roasted corn and lime acid.

#96 Home, New Delhi

In 2023, this Delhi-based bar placed at 58 on the list and is geared towards an exclusive, international experience. The members-only club is focused on understated luxury and has several unique spaces and an experimental cocktail program. They play with locally sourced ingredients and techniques such as saffron and hung curd in the ‘16th Century’, or highlight unexpected flavours like the bitter gourd garnished Infinitum, there’s always something new to try.
