Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcomed their first baby, a daughter on September 8 and finally returned home a week after she was admitted to the HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. Now that Deepika is entering a new journey in her life, motherhood, here are some lessons that she looks back at her mother to follow as time unfolds.
In an interview, Deepika once shared that she has learnt a lot from her mother Ujjala Padukone and that there is not a single thing she can do without her mother's voice in her head. "Simple things like when I buy something, I remember that she has always told me to find out how much it is for."
Lessons that Deepika also hopes to forward to her daughter:
Financially Independence
Ujjala once said, "I have always believed that a woman should be financially independent, have her own money irrespective of whether her husband is there to take care of her or not. That's what I did."
Career Support
In 2017, Deepika recalled on The Ellen Show how her parents, particularly her mother, provided the financial backing that enabled her to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.
She shared how she approached her mother to borrow 10,000 rupees for a professional photoshoot to build her portfolio. Her parents’ unconditional support, both emotionally and financially, helped her get her start in the industry. Deepika’s own journey into motherhood might be marked by this same lesson: fostering an environment where her child feels empowered to chase their dreams, no matter the hurdles.
A Strong Pillar Of Support
From time and again, Deepika has drawn inspiration from the woman who has been her pillar of strength—her mother, Ujjala Padukone.
In a 2015 interview, Deepika called her mother the "real hero" of their family. Ujjala was the quiet force who held the family together while her husband and children chased their passions in the spotlight. Despite being away from fame herself, Ujjala's presence as the stabilising force in the Padukone household shows the importance of being the anchor for the family. "My father is a celebrity and my sister started her golf career, but my mother was never in the spotlight. She is happy taking a backseat. My mother is the real hero in my family," said Deepika.
As Deepika becomes a mother, she can draw on this lesson to be a supportive and grounding influence for her own children.
Emotional Support
Deepika has openly shared her struggles with depression, and how her mother played a key role in recognising the signs and seeking help. Ujjala’s attentiveness to her daughter’s emotional health serves as a reminder of how vital it is for mothers to be in tune with their children’s mental well-being.
Deepika can carry forward this wisdom, ensuring that emotional support is always available in her own home.
