Kids love to go outside and explore and learn new things about their surroundings. However, for Krista Piper Grundey, a mother in Ohio, it was a nightmare when her three-year-old daughter Lily got lost in a crowded museum. Read to know what this mom did to find her daughter
Old Tiktok video to the rescue
In an interview to TODAY.com, Grundey, 36 said, “My first instinct was to call out her name.” But then she remembered an old TikTok video of a mom who was also in a similar situation.
“She said to shout out a description of what your child is wearing because that way people know what to look for,” Grundey said. “So, I started yelling ‘Little girl, pink Minnie Mouse shirt!’ And then other parents joined in and were repeating, ‘Little girl, pink Minnie Mouse shirt!’”
Grundey said that the video she saw on TikTok had a mom who lost her kid in a grocery store and instead of calling out the child’s name, she started yelling the description of what the child was wearing. This helped that mom to locate her missing child faster.
When Grundey started to yell, she initially thought that other people would assume her crazy but other moms soon joined with her. Within a few minutes, Lily was found. Grundey says that instead of just calling out child’s name or going person to person or to groups and asking if they have seen a three year old girl wearing a pink Minnie Mouse shirt could have taken a lot of time. This method saved her precious time.
Children often wander in public places like fairs, amusement parks and beaches. To keep your kids safe, here are some tips:
  • Keep a note containing your phone number at an easily accessible place.
  • Do not panic and remain calm. Many times, the child wanders away nearby only. Contact any staff or employee of the place so that your child can be located faster.
