If there’s one royal family that we’re all obsessed with, it has to be the British. Who doesn’t love soaking up every bit of information thrown our way about them? Just look at the popularity of The Crown!
Sarah Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, is the former wife of Prince Andrew, Duke of York—the third child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and the younger brother of King Charles III. She married Prince Andrew in 1986 and received the titles of Duke and Duchess of York. They separated in 1992 and formally divorced in 1996, yet Sarah and Prince Andrew still live together. They have two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York.
A published author, Sarah has written over 60 books, including delightful children’s stories like Ballerina Rosie and Tea for Ruby, illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser, as well as the Little Red series. She’s also penned a memoir titled Finding Sarah.
But did you know she’s also a bestseller in romantic fiction? Her book Her Heart for a Compass, published in 2021, made it onto the UK bestsellers chart. This 500-plus-page historical romance is published by Mills & Boon. As Goodreads states, "A bold and thoughtful story about a rebellious woman finding herself and her voice in an age of astounding technological change and great social unrest, Her Heart for a Compass is a delicious costume drama rich in atmosphere, history, and colour." The story is about a red-headed, free-spirited young Lady Margaret Montagu Scott, who flees an arranged marriage to eventually find true love, and her true calling.
"According to book sales monitor Nielsen, the novel sold 1,079 copies in the week to 14 August, enough to put it in 10th place in the hardback fiction chart that week—behind Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid, but ahead of Songbirds by Christy Lefteri," wrote Alison Flood for The Guardian in 2021.
In the Tea With Twiggy podcast, Sarah shared her hopes for her book to be adapted for the screen, much like Julia Quinn's saucy Bridgerton series.
