Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently announced that employees will have to return to offices five days a week starting January 2 next year. Well, guess what happened thereafter? As per a survey, over 73% of employees said they’re considering quitting because of the return to office (RTO) mandate.
As per job review site Blind, after surveying 2585 employees, it was found that 91% employees felt "overwhelmingly dissatisfied" with the decision to work from office. In fact, 90% professionals claimed they already knew of a colleague who has started looking for another job. 32% of them said they knew a coworker who had already put in their papers after the CEO made the announcement.
As per the Blind report, a verified Amazon professional employee even said, “My morale for this job is gone, gonna totally check out till PIP.” Clearly, a majority of professionals are miffed with the RTO mandate. They’re happy with the status quo, that is, they are happy doing work remotely.
Well, nobody knows if the company is going to take stock of its professionals' plight and reverse its decision, or if it’s going to stay firm on its decision. However, it is important to know why most professionals prefer working from home.
It offers them convenience
It goes without saying that professionals find it a lot more convenient and comfortable when they work from home rather than when they work from the office. A lot of professionals feel that they are able to work better with no distractions when they work remotely. Besides, they are also able to save on commute time and that is a big reason why people do not want to take up jobs that mandate one to work from the office.
It helps them spend more time with their dear ones
After Covid pandemic wreaked havoc on the lives of people, a lot of professionals understood the importance of spending quality time with their loved ones. So, a lot of professionals feel they’re able to strike a better work-life balance when they work from work.
They simply do not see a point
A lot of professionals simply do not see a point in returning to offices. They feel that their productivity levels will come down if they do so. Besides, they simply don’t see any downsides to working from home and positive points from working from the office.
They want to escape toxic work culture
It is definitely true that a lot of professionals do not want to return to office, because they don't want to surround themselves with office politics and toxicity. They view work from home as a blessing in disguise. It simply saves them from a lot of office drama and helps them focus on things that truly matter.
