New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a 19-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Mumbai for allegedly killing a 23-year-old woman and hiding her dead body in a bag in northeast Delhi’s Farsh Bazar.
According to The Times Of India, the police suspected that the suspect, Sultan, was angry by the victim, Shama’s interactions with her former boyfriend. Notably, Sultan and Shama were about to get married.
Shama’s family claimed that Sultan tried to mislead them after murder and even told them that he would help find her and would go to the police to file a complaint.
The accused ran an e-commerce delivery and packaging business and the victim worked at a beauty parlour.
Notably, the police on Sunday found a suspicious bag inside a room near Gali No 10, Vishwas Nagar.
Upon receiving the call, the police and forensic team reached the spot.
The spot was forensically examined and upon opening the bag the strangled body of a woman was recovered. She had injury marks on her head and the cloth with which she was strangulated was still on her neck.
Following the same, a case was registered.
According to the police, the murder took place at Sultan’s office on Saturday. “One of his employees found the bag on Sunday and alerted the authorities,” they added.
Meanwhile, Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Rohit Meena said the accused’s phone was switched off, but technical analysis revealed that he was in Mulund, Mumbai. Several teams were formed to apprehend him.
Confessing to his crime, Sultan told officials that he had known Shama for the past two-three years and they were planning to get married and the families were also involved.
“Sultan called her to his office to resolve their differences. An altercation ensued, resulting in her death,” police said. “He had tied Shama’s hands and legs and placed the body in a plastic bag. He then locked his office, turned off his phone, and fled the scene. He took a train from New Delhi Railway Station to Mumbai, where his cousin stays. Sultan told him that he was searching for a job,” police said.
