An Ayurvedic expert took to her social media and shared the captivating story of how this sacred herb, also known as ‘Sahasra Virya,’ in Ayurveda, had a soothing effect on Lord Ganesha’s burning sensations. Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya also talked about the many health benefits durva.
Legend of Lord Ganesha and Durva
The expert shared, “In the battlefield, Analasura attacked Lord Ganesha with fireballs. Lord Ganesha assumed his vishwaroopam and ended up swallowing him. Having eaten Analasura, Lord Ganesha’s body started heating up and Lord Ganesha started getting a burning sensation in the whole body.”
She then continued, “To cool him down, the Moon God stood on him, Lord Vishnu gave him his lotus and Lord Shiva tied his snake around his waist to release the excess heat, but nothing worked. When all of these failed, a group of sages offered 21 blades of the Durva Grass. The Durva Grass was able to do what the Moon God, Vishnu’s sacred Lotus and Shiva’s sacred Cobra were not able to achieve together – it brought down the excess heat generated by the demon Analasura from Lord Ganesha’s body.”
