Vyasa Puja is observed during the full moon in the month of Ashadha. According to Drik Panchang, "Traditionally this day is reserved for Guru Puja or Guru Worship. On this day disciples offer Puja or pay respect to their Gurus. Guru refers to spiritual guide who enlighten disciples by his knowledge and teachings."
This year Vyasa Puja which is also known as Vyasa Purnima will be celebrated on 21 July. It is commemorated as the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa. One of the most revered sages, Ved Vyasa or Vyasa's name was Krishna Dvaipayana. He is traditionally regarded as the author of number of Hindu texts, that includes Bhagavata Purana and the Mahābhārata. He is regarded as the first Guru in the history of humankind and the one who imparted the knowledge and understanding of Vedas to the people. Vyas, is one of the immortals called the Chiranjeevis. It's believed that Chiranjeevis are still alive in the current age known as Kali Yuga.

It's believed that performing puja on this day is beneficial. Follow these steps for performing the rituals of Vyasa Purnima Puja:
  • Wake up early, clean the house, take a bath and wear new clothes.
  • Make the Vyasapeeth by putting a clean white cloth on the floor and then drawing twelve lines on it with Ashtagandha powder.
  • Ensure that those sacred lines are formed in such a way that they go from north to south and east to west.
  • Then take a vow to fast for the day as you chant “Guruparampara Siddhartha Vyasa Poojam Karisheyasya”.
  • On the seat of Vyasa, pray to Lord Brahma, Paratparashakti, Vyasa, Shukdev, Gaudapada, Govindaswamy Ji, and Guru Shankaracharya.
  • Perform Shodashopachar Puja of 16 Padhartha (matter).
  • After getting done with all of the above rituals, worship your parents and the Diksha gurus.
