Boston Celtics secured a second consecutive victory in the NBA Finals as they defeated Dallas Mavericks 105-98 in the game 2. Dallas have now taken a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals matchup and are just two games away from their 18th NBA title.
Jrue Holiday led the team with 26 points and 11 rebounds while Jayson Tatum’s poor shooting form was compensated by 12 assists and nine rebounds. Luka Doncic’s match figure read 32 points with 11 rebounds and 11 assists as he became the first Mavericks player in NBA history to record a triple-double in the NBA finals.
The Mavericks will now return to their base as they will try to utilise their home comfort in the game 3. They started the game on a positive note by securing an early lead but as the game progressed they lost the plot and Boston started to halt their momentum.
For the ninth time in the NBA finals, the Celtics have prevailed in the first two game. They have won the last wight and never needed to go to a seventh match in any of those instances.
Jaylen Brown came up with 21 points while Tatum chipped in with 18 points. Doncic who has battling injuries earned praise from his coach Jason Kidd after the game. “It’s not all on him. It’s a team.
“He put us in a position. He was really good tonight. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get over the hump. We’ve got to find someone to join Luka and (Kyrie Irving) in that scoring category.”
Boston showed the way how team play should be and gaffer Joe Mazzulla emphasised on the combined efforts.
“I’m really tired of hearing about one guy or this guy or that guy and everybody trying to make it out to be anything other than Celtic basketball.
“Everybody that stepped on that court today made winning plays on both ends of the floor.”
Game 3 will take place on June 13 at the American Airlines Center.
