KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- LeBron James wanted to surpass Michael Jordan
- Former NBA players makes massive claim
- Lebron will play his 22nd season in NBA
Michael Jordan was widely considered the best basketball player of all time, until, another certain number 23 took centre stage. LeBron has well and truly dominated the NBA like few players before him were able to do. Perhaps the biggest highlight of King James' career has been the longevity as he continues to remain a dominant force of nature, even ahead of his 22nd season.
With an average of 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds, in the 2023-24 season, the phenom is showing no signs of slowing down just yet as he braces for yet another season with LA Lakers. However, in 2005, James had vowed that he would surpass the legacy of a certain 'number 23' aka Michael Jordan, a former NBA player claimed.
Rashad McCants, who spent four seasons in the NBA, shared on Gil's Arena how James was hell-bent on making the other number 23 'disappear'.
"A bunch of motherf***ers were at the table, and Bron just happened to say some s**t randomly: ‘I'm trying to make that other number 23 disappear," McCants revealed.
"The guy who told me looked up, glanced at everyone else at the table, and said, 'Good luck, young fella.' Now here we are," he added.
With a career average of 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists over 1,492 regular season matches, James' record truly justifies his place as one of the NBA's best. Even though there was speculation over the future of King James, he will remain with the Lakers for one more year, and the legendary baller will unite with his son Bronny James, who was also drafted into the team to fulfil the lifelong dream of LeBron.
James recently won the Paris Olympics 2024 gold medal with Team USA, beating France in the final to add another honour to his bustling trophy cabinet and the veteran will turn his sights on the upcoming NBA campaign next.
