Virat Kohli was in action for India against the United States of America on Wednesday (June 12) during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 match, which was played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Kohli came out as the opener for India in the 111-run chase, but was unable to open his account. He was dismissed for a golden duck by Saurabh Netravalkar on the second ball of the first over. It was the first time in T20 World Cup history that Kohli was out for a golden duck. But despite Kohli’s flop show, India managed to get the better of the United States team and won the third Group A match by seven wickets. The Rohit Sharma-led side chased down the target of 111 runs in 18.2 overs.
During the match against the USA, fans gathered in huge numbers at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium to watch the Indians play, and in one of the videos going viral on the internet, fans can be seen teasing Virat Kohli with Anushka Sharma’s chants. They can be heard saying, “Diwali ya Holi, Anushka loves Kohli.”

The win over the USA helped India retain the No. 1 position in Group A and also confirm its place in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024. In the Super 8s, India will face Australia on Monday (June 24), and the opponents for the first two matches are yet to be decided. However, it is 'almost confirmed' that India will face Afghanistan in the first Super 8 match on June 20 in Barbados after New Zealand’s chances of reaching the next round were crushed by the West Indies on Thursday (June 13).
New Zealand will get knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2024 if Afghanistan beat Papua New Guinea on Friday (June 14).
